The high desert of Mason Valley has long been known for its quality alfalfa hay production. The cool spring days provide a slow growing season for high testing hay that is coveted by dairies in California and Nevada. The hot dry days allow for quick drying of the hay and thus preserving the protein content of the hay. The cool summer nights bring dew to the valley when the alfalfa is baled at nearly perfect conditions. Much of our hay is then stored in tarp covered stacks or in storage barns to preserve the quality.
In addition to quality alfalfa hay, Snyder Livestock also produces oat hay, grass hay and a mix of alfalfa and grass hay. Occasionally, we grow other hay crops such as sudan grass, triticale, or grain hay. The grass/alfalfa mix is a favorite of horse owners. |
